Numerous studies suggest that consuming flavonoid-rich diets can help manage some of the symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer's disease and benefit cognitive ability.
Which is perhaps not surprising, as dementia is linked to chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Flavonoids have already been shown to be beneficial in managing and preventing these diseases.

In a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers noted that people who eat higher amounts of flavonoid-rich foods such as berries, apples, and tea were less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.
The study involved 2,800 participants who were 50 years and older.
In it, researchers reported that people who consumed smaller amounts of the flavonoid-rich foods were two to four times more likely to develop Alzheimer's and related dementias over a 20-year time span.
Foods richest in flavonoids include apples, pears, and spinach, but many more have a wealth of the compounds as well.
Dietician Kristin Kirkpatrick said: "Flavonoids have been found in multiple strong studies to have an anti-inflammatory impact on health.
"The brain-related benefits seen in this study shows how powerful flavonoids can be to help one not just live long but live well.
"The brain is essential for this equation."
Along with more flavonoid foods such as apples, a MIND diet has also been recommended to help reduce the risk of dementia.
The diet included eating more nuts, berries, beans, whole grains, fish, poultry, olive oil and wine.
Health experts say that those who were able to strictly adhere to this type of eating, lowered their risk of Alzheimer's by up to 53 percent.
Berries are a staple of the MIND diet and could improve spatial awareness and motor function, due to their high concentration of antioxidants.
