Meghan Markle and Prince Harry eyeing up home where Diana hoped to live

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are eyeing homes in the same area that his mother planned to set down roots in 1997. The Sussexes have been hunting for a home in the Malibu, Pacific Palisades and the Pacific Coast Highway corridor of Los Angeles for more than 18 months. The pair, who today dropped their HRH titles after stepping away from royal life, have been milling over purchasing a private estate, close to a beach. The locations are near to several A-list communities, which is driving distance to the biggest Hollywood studios. Meghan's family claims the Duchess, who is now available for Hollywood work opportunities, always wanted to "return home and raise her family there." The region Harry and Meghan plan to set up a base is close to the palatial luxury home where Princess Diana hoped to live, just months before her tragic death. Her boyfriend at the time, Dodi Fayed, had picked out this secluded Malibu spot, which he had insisted was where they planned to relocate after they got married. And similarly to Meghan and Harry's homes, the estate boasts the same amenities and privacy they hope for. Friends say that while the Sussexes are renting in Bel Air, they are hunting a house "which will be home". "Over the last few months they have been looking at residences in that stretch of the city," a source said. "There is at least one very high profile, high-end realtors (estate agents), who has been home spotting for them privately. "Meghan has made it no secret to those in her life from even before meeting Harry she hoped to live on the beach eventually. "Now, with her freedom, money from Suits, husband's fortune and obvious future earning potential means that splashing as much as £16 million is achievable." Diana's planned beachfront mansion boasts one of the best views in California, and its six acres of gardens made it an ideal family retreat. Movie producer Dodi saw the luxury spot as the perfect hideaway for the ousted Royal, who spent last few years alive wanting away from the limelight. Diana and Dodi's LA dream was confirmed by the actor who played the Hollywood mogul in 2013's hit film Diana about the British icon's life. Cas Anvar, who spent months consulting with Dodi's closest friends, claims he and Diana were planning a new life in Hollywood and starting a family. Friends of Dodi felt that Diana would have built a life in Hollywood if their lives hadn't ended tragically in Paris. "I spoke to many of his friends, and they wanted to live in America. I think she would have liked it here. "She and Dodi were similar in the things in life they liked...movies, dining out and travel. They had similar tastes. So this would have been perfect." The home is set back from the famous pacific coast highway in the heart of Malibu's luxury Paradise Cove area close to star neighbours including Pamela Anderson, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Cher, Paris Hilton, The Edge and Mel Gibson. The hilltop home was also a five minutes stroll by beach or sidewalk to the famous Paradise Cove Cafe. The quiet spot is a favourite for A-listers to hang out with their families unbothered. Stars like David Beckham, Gwen Stefani and Robbie Williams have all been spotted with friends at the relaxing beach. Should Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, move to the area it would be close to some of the regions' best beaches like Zuma and Will Rogers, which was the home for Baywatch filming locations. The Will Rogers beach is famously one of Meghan's favourite spots from her childhood. Her parents Thomas and Doria, then together, would take her to the beach hangout for picnics and swim days. The Malibu region was special to the ex-Suits access during his upbringing. She would hang out with friends at beaches, malls, parks and stores within an hour's drive to get Woodland Hills home. The region boasts beautiful hiking locations like The Topanga State Park and Will Rogers State Historic Park. Source
